What is "mastering"
Polishing your recordings to commercial standards. Mastering utilises equalisation, compression and other processes to make your audio ready for use on broadcast platforms such as streaming, youtube, Internet, CD/DVD, radio, TV, club and venue.
How do I get my audio mastered?
Use the services link and purchase the mastering product and follow the instructions. Once purchased you will be required to email us a link to download your audio files from an online file transfer system like Dropbox, you can get a free 2 gig account here www.dropbox.com . We will then follow any instructions and email you a link to your mastered track once completed.
If required we will contact you about your track and we will allow one set of revisions to the mastered audio file.
Mastering Process
Checking for distortion, digital clipping, clicks
Fades in and out if required
Equalisation and compression
Mono compatibility check and phase correlation
Stereo image and spatial assessment
Limiting and volume control
All mastered files will be delivered as 16bit /24bit/ 32bit AIF or WAV files at 44.1kHz or 48kHz .
What audio files should I send?
Send the highest quality audio files possible.
Formats - Ideally WAV, AIF formats, however MP3 can be used.
Sample Rate - up to 192kHz (this should be the same as the mix session)
Bit Depth - 16bit , 24bit , 32bit
Mix Tips
Clipping - Your audio file must NOT hit 0dB.
Dynamic Range - Leave headroom and aim for a maximum volume of -4dB.
Stereo Mixes - Remove any excessive frequencies from your mix before creating the bounced file.
Reference Tracks
Include a file of a commercial recording that you would like your audio to sound like, preferably a WAV or AIF file. Not required for voice only recordings.
